Max, I do believe his series of experience and his lack of talk makes him a far more lethal character. He doesn't really smile, face usually is of a serious notion! He doesn't joke around on the battlefield, no need for humor.!

In the earlier days, I bought Mega Drive and SF2 as my first game. So Bowie is my irreplaceable character. But when my friend shows me promoted Max (he only played SF at that time), I was so suprised at Max's outfit, this character is older but he is more fashion, a black iron knight!

I voted Max because of his stronger character. He was serious and self-sacrificing, whereas Bowie was borderline goofy. I also prefer how Max simply was the Chosen Warrior contrary to how Bowie continually boasted about his title.

Max is less childlike unpromoted than Bowie, despite his gimp leg in the original. I've always much preferred Bowie's promoted appearance to Max's, though; Max's shoulder-length cape looks weird, while Bowie's color palette and hair band are rockin'.

Bowie. His story was great, what he had to achieve and go through as well. His promotion was much better than Max's in my opinion.

On the other hand, I don't think that Max actually knew any of those people prior to their joining the Force. Which is strange, given that the military of Guardiana seems to have consisted of a dozen nameless centaurs, six or seven armed guards, Varios, Mae, Max, and those five. You'd think they'd have always been on a first name basis.

Before promotion : Max, unpromoted Bowie looks a bit out of place.
After promotion : Bowie. He gets promoted from kid too young to wield a sword to badass. That seems to be a common feature in SF 2, the more annoying the unpromoted character is, the more badass the promoted version is. I'm thinking about Peter who is quite ugly unpromoted but becomes a majestic phoenix after promotion, or Slade the useless thief who becomes an über-ninja.

Globally : Bowie because he gets Bolt and he shows more evolution than Max (Max is quite badass from lvl 1 so he has less room for progression apart from stats that are just a gameplay feature).

Bowie is a Disney protagonist! Scrawny with no chance of possibly defeating enemies outside of a perfectly coincidental world. Max would hands down mold Bowie's feminine little body into whatever form he chose. Plus, he can go full end game Musashi. Who knows if that became permanent after beating Dark Dragon.

I'd vote for Max since the artstyle of SF1 is unique and stands out more compared to the rest of the Shining series along with SiTD (feels like anime, but it doesn't meet the standards of mainstream anime as Sega are doing with their new Shining games) . Plus, Bowie swings his sword very awkwardly in his promoted class. Max despite looking ridiculous swinging that sword in his promoted class you can't help but admit that he truly looks like a Hero while being so.
