I was playing shining force final conflict and a certain matter intrigued me.
If Elliot was the last remaining dragonewt in the planet, then who gave birth to Eric? Also, he has wings and Elliot didnt, did Elliot mated with a different species O_o.
Very interesting indeed.

Simple.

Elliot is not the last Dragonewt on the planet. That was a complete and total fallacy made up in ROTDD.

Make a sentence out of the following words: "Canon", "in", "not".

Or maybe Elliot never knew about Eric. Or maybe he refused to acknowledge him; when confronting an enemy on the battlefield, "I am the last remaining Dragonewt on earth..." sounds a lot better than "I am the last Dragonewt on earth, except for the one resulting from my getting very drunk while celebrating my promotion to general..."

Or perhaps fans always make convoluted attempts at explaining things when people do shoddy port jobs :p

Convoluted? It seems pretty straightforward to me...

Besides, explaining it is a lot more fun than whining about it(not that that isn't fun, too).

That could work. They could have fallen out. Or Eric could have disgraced himself in Elliot's eyes, and the elder one may have disregarded him. And his resulting death may have changed Eric point of view.

Could go on for a while here >_>

Or perhaps his mother wasn't a Dragonnewt? So then Eric would only be half, and Elliot would still be the last one. :p

True. That being the case, I'd imagine she'd have wings, working towards why Eric could fly and his father couldn't.

Yeah, I've thought about that, too. Eric having wings could just be interspecies variety, but his mother being a different species would explain it well. She could have been a dragon, a gargoyle, etc.

Actually, now that I think of it, if Eric's mother was a dragon, that could explain a LOT. It's hinted that Darksol was having the Sacred Dragons quietly killed off. So... Suppose Elliot had a passionate affair with one of the Sacred Dragons. Then the war with Guardiana begins, and Elliot is sent off. Eric is born during his absence, and his mother never sends word to Elliot for fear that Darksol would get ahold of the message and use the two of them as hostages to keep Elliot doing his bidding.

Along with all of the Sacred Dragons save Bleu, Eric's mother is killed off. Some of the kids from Dragonia save Eric and send him away. Word is sent to Elliot that his lover is dead, but without mentioning Eric, because whoever sent word either didn't know about him or feared Darksol would find out about him. Elliot decides that he has nothing left to live for. However, he fears that if he goes against Darksol he will be written as a traitor in the history books, effectively shaming his entire race, since he is the last surviving member. And so he goes to meet his end at the hands of the Shining Force.

Or Elliot has a thing for Wyvern booty instead.

If I remember FC correctly, Eric resents his father for remaining loyal to King Ramladu despite knowing that his king was being manipulated by Devils. Eric probably tried to convince his father to betray his king for the greater good, causing a heated argument that would result in Eric's [self?] exile. Elliot most likely wouldn't acknowledge the disgrace of having a traitor for a son, despite understanding and agreeing with Eric's motives.

Nova is also a Dragonewt according to the SF1 art book. It's a common theme for baddies in Shining Force to coerce a swordsman to join the darkside (inspired by Star Wars?). Mordred, Kain, Lemon, Max, Ramladu, Elliot. It doesn't go into detail on how these people turn sides, but it wouldn't be out of the question of they were lied to continuously just as the Emperor lied to Vader making him think all sorts of nonsense. Darksol probably wanted Elliot to think he was the last of his kind, that his son was already dead and that Nova is a fish?

*P.S. Shameless Necro

Maybe Elliot lost his wings in a gruesome battle.

I think the developers arbitrarily added this feature for Eric.

If you want a more logical answer, a dragonewt's physiology can vary. Humans can either be born tall, short, strong or slender. If you juxtapose Nova with Basso, you'll see what I mean.

And I believe that Elliot is the "last" of the dragonewts is a oversight of the English translation; you see plenty of allies and enemies who are dragonewts in other Shining games.
