What's the reason for restricting access to the data, other than copyright worries? I might be able to rip it myself, and might want to so I can dump and interpret the item data and other non-plot things, so I'm wondering if there's anything I should be aware of.

I'm not posting to request access, per se. I think I might be able to figure out the data formats myself, but if StorMyu doesn't want it posted at all, then I would keep it to myself.

From how I understand it, most of the logistics are already pretty well figured out, including the program to edit and insert text. I think it's really more of an issue of not having too many people not involved with the project having access, so that there aren't any mixups.

Been there done that. I was denied. As for just getting the part that I was interested in ( the non-plot things, as you call them), I was told they were already almost done translating, and would be made available once they were. You'd be doing a lot of work and probably not even finish before someone else makes it available for everyone. So I'd say just relax :)

Speaking of which, sorry about the delay on that info - been dealing with some depression fits, and it's a pain in the ass since it makes me tired and not wanting to do anything. I'll try and get those this week.

A translation isn't as easy to work with as a data file (i.e. writing down the data is more tedious than writing a program to have it print out in a format you like), so I would still consider ripping it myself.

The text is already ripped. StorMyu didn't do it by hand. He coded the programs to do it. The only thing done by hand is the actual translation itself, which will be typed into the appropriate program with the flags and such.

Clearing things up:
- If I ripped stuff myself, would StorMyu object to my putting it up?
- Siel thinks I'm asking for access. I wouldn't object to it, but I am not asking for it.
- Simpelicity thinks that I want access to the already-ripped text so I can learn the game mechanics. He suggests waiting for the translation so I can read it from in-game. But ripping includes the data (stats), which is less tedious to get directly from the game files.
- Omega Entity seems to think I want to help rip the text for the translation project? I don't think I can do anything, code-wise, to help the project at this point.

I mean, even if I could read the text in the translation, I would want game data, as in the numbers that dictate gameplay. If I were to get the data from the translation, I would have to type the numbers displayed on my DS (or not displayed). This is less convenient (to me) than figuring out the data format and writing a program to do it for me.

All I know is that StorMyu likes things kept within the team, which I think is understandable :)

Siel, thanks again for your help with the theme song! So, you'd like to help a bit more with the translation now? I can send you a sample file so you can see what you'd be working with and if you're happy with the format etc then we'd be glad to welcome you to the team and give you access to the script! :D

About the game and/or game design? Sure.

I meant, as in learning to extract it. I don't know that we have anything that figures out the algorithms for the mechanics and such. Anything programming-related is all Greek to me, anyway :)

Actually, I don't really understand what you want here...
You want to see the text ? but if you do it by yourself you'll keep it for yourself ? (which I really don't care, no offense)
