Interesting, I can't decide if I like the art style or not.

Nice that this one shows some actual gameplay. I rather like the look of how the battles are laid out.

I seen the first trailer first yesturday for the first time, and I have to say, "Dam, some of those chicks in that game are really busting!" It's like soft porn quality. Is this the future of gaming? Should I even complain? Is there gampley in this game?

Anyways, I have to say that I like the graphics for the town exploration. As it kinda reminds me of good 2D gaming town exploartion. This is also why I love the Nintendo portable systems (GBA & DS) so much, As they preserve the look of 90's gaming/technology for a bit longer (plus they last really long before the next update. I hate systems updates that seem to always come much too soon).

Yeah. That was my issue with the art style on reflection, it's a good style but but they took a few too many "liberties." It makes the game look cheap. It's far from the worst example of this kind of fan service but it is noticeable.

I'm pretty sure that you can argue that this is the "past" of gaming. Right now, developers are starting to aim for broader demographics and I suspect that bloated breasts don't sell well across the board. So I think that we'll be seeing less, not more, of this in the future though I suspect that it will always be a part of gaming.
Sinful Force @ Mon Sep 20, 2010 3:11 pm) wrote:Should I even complain?

Yes. It's kind of insulting in a Shining title, a bit of a sign that Sega didn't think the game would sell well enough on its own so they inflated the girl's breasts.

Exactly. Don't expect too much from someone primarily known for drawing porno.

Ah, Shining is taking a line from Langrisser I see. :p

What I think also makes the game look cheap is the female bodies looking identical. I can't tell for sure if they truly are identical due to different clothing and angles, but I have not seen any evidence that they are not identical and at least they are very similar. The similarity also includes shape of head.

As far as males goes, the main character and the prince also seem to share body shape. The elf may also do so, but he's shown from the side. The pirate guy definitely has a different build though.

I don't understand the busty chicks complaint. Both Shining Force III and Shining Tears are easily as risque as this. And really, the series has never been free of in-your-face cleavage. Just get a look at the covers of Shining Wisdom and Shining Force Gaiden.

Mars: :eyebrow: Um... Princess... Any thoughts about putting those shoulder straps on your shoulders?
Satera: Relax. My breasts are easily big enough to hold this dress up.

This complaint I understand. It's been at the back of my head, but it has been bothering me that they look so much alike, if not identical. It doesn't make much sense to me, either. Tony Taka is doing the designs, isn't he? On Tears and Wind he showed himself more than capable of creating a variety of female figures, despite the limitation of them all being well-endowed. So what's with this lookalikes deal?

**Shrug** On the bright side, limited variety in character designs being my biggest complaint thus far says a lot.

You sure about that last part? What I've heard from folks in the comic book industry is that the appeal of attractive-looking women is pretty much universal. It's the gender-flipped version of the old saying; "Women want to be her, men want to be with her."

It's just that the drawing look even more realistic. It's like I can feel their soft skin realistic. Sorry if that sounds perverse.

Also, while SF3 had the odd smoking chick here and there, it wans't like the entire party was comprised of mostly nothing but beautifull divas that scream "touch me, feel me" in a nice sexy moaning type of voice (isn't that in a song?).

All I'm saying is that I must of missed on too many modern day games, or only in Japan retro gaming, to be up to speed on this sort of stuff being more so widely accepted in gaming with even more realistic art/graphics/higher resolution. Because this sort of stuff seems pretty new to me as I've been living in a cave in regards to most modern gaming (I'm very slowly planning on trying some "made in the year 2000" games for the major home consoles soon).

Although the bustiness and the revealingness of the chicks in this game bothers me, I rather do like their designs. They're neat. I'm particularly fond of the witch look, hence why I'm so in love with Amitalilly/Amitalira (Amitaliri according to some sites; maybe my sister's game is broke or something, 'cos she definitely says Amitalira and that's what it says on the screen).

I'm actually excited to play this game. While it may not hold the same look and feel as the old Shining games we love and adore, it at least still holds the same feel as the games they've been producing. So at least they're staying in the same general area of feel and whatnot.

The only thing I'm really disappointed with is that they aren't bringing the old Shining feel to it. While I, myself, like these new games as a type of alternate universe, I would like to see them try to bring back the old games and old storyline and work on it. Not to say there's anything wrong with it currently, I'd just like to see something that at least involves the old storyline. Like possibly have it thousands of years in the future, but still bring up old things like what happened to Max and Dark Dragon...

Yeah... I like the new games. :shifty: And I wanna play this one.

If you're comparing the in-game graphics, maybe, but the artwork for Shining Force III, Shining Tears, etc. looks just as realistic to me. (I won't even get into the swimsuit statues from Shining Tears and Shining Wind...)

Also, while SF3 had the odd smoking chick here and there, it wans't like the entire party was comprised of mostly nothing but beautifull divas that scream "touch me, feel me" in a nice sexy moaning type of voice (isn't that in a song?).

Only because the SF3 party is much, much larger. Once the quota of a half dozen sexy chicks in skimpy clothing was filled, the SF3 team still had 50 characters left to design. (Just to clarify, I'm only putting it that way for clarity's sake; I have no reason to believe the women were designed first.)

Shining Hearts also has the advantage that the girls look more natural, with none of the oddness(as you put it) of the SF3 girls. They're dressed and posed like normal women, not as though they're masquerading as the harem of a rich pervert with eccentric tastes. :eww:

Ditto. Some are excellent, some otherwise, but overall I like them.

So far, the game itself, although not really Shining-esque, looks solid enough that I'd likely pick it up if it's released over here. And if the rest of the music is as nice as that opening track, then I think I might have to track down the soundtrack as well.

Watched the debut trailer and the long trailer. Very pretty and all that but could not get much of a feel for the gameplay. Looks turn-based, but cannot say for sure. Trouble is, its on the PSP which I don't have and don't really want. However if it does well it may open the door for a Shining game on another platform, which can only be a good thing.

Yeah, they've been doing quite well with opening themes. I still periodically get the Feather theme stuck in my head.

I've been on hiatus awhile but from what I see of gameplay in these trailers it primarily focuses on smaller team battles like 3v3 or 4b4 from the looks of it and while I'm glad to see it looks also turn based as its refreshing to see a new shining game do that however I have a bad feeling that the days of big team turn based shining games are behind us
