Screen Capture Effort

Postby legalize freedom » Mon Aug 04 2014 12:51pm

As posted on the official site http://sf3trans.shiningforcecentral.com, I'm now looking for volunteers to help screen capture the original Japanese lines so we can make things easy for potential translators and get these lines reviewed.

Please post here if you have any questions or want to discuss this task.

Volunteers for this task or the translating itself please email or PM me.

Thanks!

I'd like to assist where I can and taking screenshots seems within my abilities! I do have one question though. Is there a way in SSF to be able to skip forwards through the game? I don't know any Japanese and fear I might get potentially stuck. If I were able to skip beyond this part at least I could keep contributing for later parts of the game.

That's definitely an interesting strategy. Let's hope it works out well.

There is no way to skip ahead in SSF, but we have a full complement of saves so finding all the dialog should be pretty easy.

That'd be fine then. I'll need to make sure SSF is working correctly and then I'll send you a PM to get more details on how I can assist.

What might be good is once there's a group of people ready to do this, to assign certain Chapters of each Scenario to a pair, with a mid-battle the cut off/start of point for each one.

This would make the line capturing process a lot quicker and organised, also stopping duplicates of lines being done by different people.

Remember: these screenshots are for all the lines of dialogue, so all the towns folk etc., etc. - not just the main dialogue :)

If I didn't know better, I'd think you were volunteering to head up the effort, Swalch...

For those who have responded, I'll send the info out this weekend.

You know me too well, LF :p

Seeing as though we're more or less complete up to chapter 5 of Scenario 2, with Scenario 3's 6 chapters +Special, we really could do with having 18 volunteers to spread the chapters around evenly between two people.

Time to see if we can rustle up some more volunteers :)

You may want to mention this in the FB group, Steve :)

In September I might have some time to help.

Why screenshot and not just post the japanese script? You're afraid of typos, is that it?

Think the problem is the fact that we don't actually have the Japanese script written up anywhere. Plus it's hard to get the correct Japanese script from the translator programme.

So, it's much easier just to go through and screenshot all the Japanese text for the translators to base their translation off. I also doubt that there's enough people proficient enough to type out the Japanese script as they see it onscreen :)

Sc3 is also not as bad as it seems. There are a lot of lines in Sc3 that have been reviewed already due to needing to fill in all the blank lines. They are here and there though, so it will be important to identify the needed lines once the effort gets to Sc3.

Indeed, I'll have time to help. :)

It's for scenario 3 only then?

I can do this when all screenshots are collected, if you people would like.

That sounds great! Message sent.

There are around 20 files left in Sc2 before we get to Sc3.

Thanks for volunteering!

A massive big shout out to Eskimudio, whom has already done a heck of a load of screenshots for us, and is almost at the end of Scenario 2!

I guess I overestimated how many volunteers were required by 17 :)

Dude, your face is so red I can see it all the way across the pond.

It is Eskimudio who has been kicking ass on the Sc2 screens.

Do you still need help with this? I'd be willing to help.

Do I need to have played fully through scenario 1? Will not loading the save make me miss certain dialogue, etc.? If so, I may need a few weeks or something to be able to get to S2.

Either way, thanks, and please let me know if I can help.
