scenario 1 King Bertram

Postby Starhowl » Tue May 06 2014 9:05am

I did not understand this as a non-native language speaker of english;

"The die is cast."

can anyone confirm this and / or further explain it?

(The first time Bertram shows up in game 'bewitched')

It is an expression that means the inevitable has happened. They cannot change things now, they have already been set in to motion

But didn't you rather mean 'dye' instead of 'die' or 'dice'?

No, it's definitely "die" :)

http://dictionary.cambridge.org/diction ... ie-is-cast

It pretty much means "the dice have been thrown and have shown you the numbers" ('die' being the singular of 'dice'), with the meaning that Rick mentioned (the inevitable outcome) :)

"Alea Iacta Est."

It's not actually an English phrase, it's a Latin one attributed to Julius Caesar.
