Shining Force III makes top 100 games of all time!

Postby Moogie » Fri Aug 27 2010 7:51am

News from: http://www.shiningforcecentral.com

Shining News: Shining Force III makes top 100 games of all time!

SFCer Ashley, who works at gamesTM magazine here in the UK has dropped me a line to say that Shining Force III has made the top 100 games of all time in the 100th issue of gamesTM.

To celebrate 100 issues, the magazine has put together 100 different covers, each featuring one of the top games. Naturally, SFIII is among them, as you can see from the cover here.

Only 400 of each cover design will be available, so they're very limited edition. It'll be down to chance whether or not your usual stockist happens to have a SFIII cover or not.

So, when the magazine goes on sale on September 2nd, the great SFIII cover hunt will begin! I for one will check all the local shops for it and will pick up any spare copies I find with the SFIII cover. Ashley, despite working for the magazine, does not automatically get his choice of covers and would dearly like a copy not only for himself but also one to send on to Camelot in recognition of their achievements.

Should I locate more than one copy, I will gladly give the second to Ashley for Camelot - any others will be available to SFCers (at cost price) and I hope all SFCers will do likewise to help each other out. I'll take Thursday off work and spend the day visiting all the local magazine stockists if I can!

Good luck all :)

Thanks a lot for the post, Moogs. And thanks for offering to help with the treasure hunt. :)

I'll be on the lookout too, of course. And if I see any SFIII covers I'll buy as many as I can carry and put them up for sale here. It's only right that they go to the fans.

You can add me as one of those who're interested in this! Excellent reward for the best game I´ve played in all my years. There's still a game which has yet to surpass Shining Force III in my book!

A thumbs up to GamesTM and Ashley!

If this magazine isn't available in the U.S., I will be keeping a close eye on the classified adverts board for a chance to buy a copy. I never had a chance to play this game and will emulate this beautiful game to see what I have been missing! If it is available in the U.S. I will keep an eye out for it and will purchase as many as I can get my hands on and will pass on the extra copies to members who couldn't find it. I will sell them at newsstand price or best offer. I may also just give a few away to members who can't afford to buy one. Thank you Moogs for the heads up!

That's awesome that this made the top 100 of their gaming list, considering how many games the world has. Very cool.

...Makes me want to play SF3 even more... :(

-.-

I'd also like to own that cover, but yeah... I live in the US, so that probably won't happen. =\

Before the great hunt begins, here's a couple of pointers:

To my knowledge, Morrison's & Sainsbury's don't carry gamesTM. I know this from personal experience, having worked the news/mags/home entertainment sections at 6 different Morrison's and one Sainsburys! Also, from what I can gather, Gamestation has stopped selling magazines, but I know the one I used to be assistant manager at was still having them delivered when I was in it, so it may be worth asking!

Tescos do stock it, however, so keep your peepers peeled in there!

Also, don't forget, the store's entire stock may not be out on display! Again, ask! In my experience, if you catch the person who's doing that section (providing it isn't first thing and they're desperately trying to get the new stock out on the stands!), they'll be more than happy to have an excuse to hide away from the shop floor for a couple of minutes and go have a look for alternate covers for you! :)

Not entirely true - my local Sainsbury's at Bagshot Road, Bracknell does stock Games TM, but I gather it's one of their larger stores so may well have a larger range than most other banches.

Cool, that's good news! :) I've only had experience with the four here on the Island and the one in Pompey, and although my store and Pompey both have a pretty big news & mags section, it's obviously not big enough!

This sounds like it may be the best tactic to go for.

I will be checking every shop in my town for a copy on the 2nd. Thankfully a WHSmiths has just opened up which increases the potential. There's also a Morrisons and Sainsbury so will report back if they stock GamesTM at all.

Wonder how many copies we'll get between us? :)

GOOD NEWS: You can order specific covers directly from here

BAD NEWS - There are only two of each cover available. Act quickly!

Have dropped them a line, awaiting a response.

Didn't find any in town today :( WHSmiths didn't have any in stock yet, but may get them tomorrow and will call me if they get a #50!

Will have to see if I can contact some of the out of town supermarkets to see if they have any in stock!

EDIT:
...
Asda don't have it - no GamesTM at all.
Morrisons don't have #50, but may get more stock in a week or two when it sells out.
Can't find a number for Tesco, but will get Rich to pop out there by car tomorrow!

Not looking hopeful for Weymouth :(
Got my sister on Suffolk duty ;)

I'm on Manch duty!
Popped into Smiths yesterday - they had about half a dozen of the wrong covers. I'm going to Sainsburys later today, and will check some of the smaller newsagents in the city centre on Monday when I'm back at work.

Moogie - I didn't realise you lived down by Weymouth, a very large portion of my family live there.

And Koshums, I was in Sainsbury's yesterday but I didn't know about this awesome moment in history until 2 minutes ago, so I can't say for sure if they have it in or not.

If it's any help, I wasn't divinely drawn towards the mags stands.

Been in Wyke most of my life but also did a stint in Littlemoor.

Going to try Tesco in a bit when Rich gets home from work!

Sadly the Morrisons in Basingstoke and the Co-op in Overton didn't have the SHF3 issue in stock. :( (Amusingly the Overton Co-op had a copy of issue 78! :) )

Gonna be checking the Bracknell Sainsbury's tomorrow, then probably stopping at all the service stations between here and Liverpool tomorrow.

Yeah, I see that the SF3 covers are allready & the only ones sold out. Anybody order more than one of these from here?
From what I remember about reading Moogie's forum guideline awhile ago, it says that by adding the letters j/k together at the end of a sentence or post, it prevents people from getting upset... So remember South Parkateers, in case of a volcano, stop, drop, tuck and roll. ... Oh wait, er, you know what I mean. ;)

Tesco & Londis didn't have it either :(
I knew I should have phoned this morning to order a copy from that link, but I assumed someone else had already bought them by the time I woke up (had an accidental lie in this morning).

Bugger.

Guess I'll be phoning around Dorchester tomorrow.

My best friend searched around the Portsmouth area. She found 17 different covers, but not one was SF3 :(

Been to 3 Tesco's, 2 Asda's, 2 Morrisons, 2 Sainsbury's, and 6 newsagents, and not a single one of them has had a single copy of GamesTM, never mind one with the SF3 cover on it.

I guess it's not that popular a magazine where I live =/

(I don't get it either >.>)
