Sega Forever

So Sega is putting select titles of theirs up for sale on mobile phones now with the intent of discovering which franchises might be ripe for re-investigation. Phantasy Star II is already on the list. Could Shining Force be far behind, or did the domination of the Takaverse and failure of the Resurrection forever doom our franchise?

Not sure if the article mentions it or not, because I'm lazy, but the games are free with a paid premium ($2?) to get rid of ads.

I like the concept and hope something decent comes from it. There are quite a few Genesis games/series that I love so dearly and the thought of having them remastered or given another title is awesome.

Even though I have a Genesis and Saturn, still looking forward to this. If SF could get back in circulation and dare I hope maybe a new edition down the line.

While my understanding of business-buzzword-fu is weak, it kinda sounds like tehy're specifically trying to target groups of niche audiences with the hope that relatively small numbers of users will be willing to pile cash towards their preferred franchises/game styles and purchase them across multiple consoles.

He's pretty transparently stating that Sega is doing this as a means to perform opt-in market research, and users provide all the needed data simply by buying their games.

You're Fu is flawless. *mouth keep moving for three seconds* *or...fingers keep moving...because that would be delightfully strange*

I downloaded PS2 for my iphone and its emulated rather horribly with the music being the biggest problem. It's a shame because I have SF on my iphone as well and outside of a few issues with the controls it plays rather flawlessly.

Honestly this entire thing seems like it was rushed out when they should have spent more time on the emulation they were going to use for this thing, also to launch with more then the 5 titles we've seen here.

I have SF on my iCloud for my iPhone that runs pretty good, but I've also at times downloaded an emulator and just used it outright. It's not as easy with an iPhone unfortunately as it is with a Droid but you know.

Sounds great in theory... Then you discover that these are Sega's laziest ports yet. Which is saying something.
