What is your ideal fantasy character, and why?
Examples of extant literary or videogame characters absolutely welcome.

The failblood.

On the battlefield, when everything is chaos/ you have nothing but the way you feel, your strategy and a sword/ just think of the life you'll have together after the war

Paladins aplenty, please. Assassins got it right.

Also, where did you find that, I require a full size version.

One of the top images in Google image.

Also, Agrias is a philosophical warrior, ruminating on the swiftness of mortality. She's not the typical paladin, but a thoughtful holy warrior.

Not fantasy, but I really like Hans Ebert from Chung Kuo.

He's basically a straight-up villain for half the series. Entitled, petty, vain, pointlessly cruel. Traitor to his king, chief ally to the main villain, partially responsible for his father's death.

In his arrogance, he loses everything and does a lot of self-reflection. Eventually he embraces a form of Taoism, and makes a complete 180.

I just like the whole "never too late to do the right thing" deal.

You have been hanging out with the wrong type of paladins. That's precisely the sort I prefer.

Although that's a lot to derive from "Life is short. Bury! Steady Sword!"

Probe'd.

My favorite hero is typically a grizzled old, but absolutely efficient killing machine.
A lot of authors seem to enjoy focusing on their aches and pains.

Sure, they can have those too, along with being somewhat dead inside and forged as an avatar of death in the crucible of war and murder.

Klingons, basically.

The more like a Klingon the character is, the more I am apt to like them.

It can be hard to get Klingons to go away though.

The man who does what he has to do even he doesn't want to because it will make him a monster in other's eyes, a thankless hero.
