Having looked at it, MapleStory does not appear to be my jam. It sounds like solo play is a slog, and I'm not looking for group play. I think that's why I ignored the game when it was new. Also, I'm not looking to replay games I've played many times already, so zelda 2 is out. I'll give faxanadu a shot.

Also, I've always kind of hated MapleStory, because I use Maple (the math programming language) a lot in my work and MapleStory stuff clutters up my google searches.

But yeah try faxanadu

There is also Salt and Sanctuary... which could be up your alley.

It's not yet available on steam, and I prefer to let new releases sit there for a year or so, for the stupids to be worked out.

Already did it. It was mostly enjoyable, but I think 2-d platformers need to get over the dark souls imitation thing. Specifically I mean the part where they near instant kill you, just to try to trick you into thinking the game is hard. Hollow knight is really guilty of that.

Also faxanadu seems a reasonable choice, as I have been considering tracking the legend of the heroes back to its roots, which is the dragon slayer series. The gameplay, is of course, completely unrelated.

RUNE YOU SHOULD PLAY STRIDER BECAUSE ITS STUPID AND FUN

And it's so satisfying as hell to blitzh through crunchies and just be a video game ninja with zero regard for stealth. If I have a gripe it's that it might be just a wee bit too easy, with some pronounced difficulty spikes that seem to come out of nowhere and pass back from whence they came.

Also see Valdis Story if you want something a bit more steady. It's reasonably difficult but not in an "all the bosses instagib you" kind of way, just asks that you pay attention to their patterns.

The Strider HD thing on Steam was pretty good. I've still got Rocket Knight HD, Sonic Mania, Sonic Generations, and Double Dragon Neon to finish as well.

Anyways, play the Strider HD game on Steam!

Any suggestions?

I think Valids Story is basically this? I have it and it's a fun play but I haven't gotten too deep into it. Shadow Complex also, if you can deal with the absolutely stupid general plot (It's much more metroidian, but you do gain experience and levels for exploring map, killing enemies and the like.)

Dust: An Elysian Tail is solid and overall gorgeous, even if the levels of Furry are often overwhelmingly cringe-inducing.

At least you spelled it right this time.

With Faxanadu, I gotta love the fact that you do need to manually equip your weapons and armor, but you can't equip them while still in the shop. Nice.

This is the laptop that I played Cold Steel 1 and 2 on (a pretty average one), and I don't recall the games ever running anything but smoothly. They're excellent games and I'd highly recommend them.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is finally out. Haven't started it yet but I backed it for it's blatant and glorious aping of Symphony of the Night.

Also hey Salibu.

It looks like mine is a little behind yours. My laptop was good when it was new, but that was a long time ago in laptop years. I plan on replacing it, or maybe going with a desktop, in a few months.

Are there any must haves with the steam summer sale? I went ahead and grabbed Shining Force Refrain, because of how cheap it was. The last "new" shining game I tried was Shining Tears, but I stopped about 1/2 to 2/3 of the way through because it was so boring.
