I tried it last night and went in with very low expectations... It wasn't terrible. As a demo it sucks because it doesn't really give you a good feel for the games combat because everything dies so easily, you only get one boss fight which is still a tutorial fight. Granted the tutorials here don't tell you much but you do have both dodging, and blocking so the combat at least has various options for the player to use.

My biggest gripe was that the game doesn't seem to have cut scenes and instead uses the character models to do this visual novel like presentation for events playing out, it came off as extremely cheap. The kind of thing I would expect from like a really low budget Tales game or something, it didn't blend with the gameplay well at all.

Also I already hate Yuma, maybe he stops being a wimp early on but this demo did a really poor job of selling me on him as a protagonist. His design is by far the worst out of any of the characters I've seen thus far. The main game is going to come with a lot of costumes or something right? Hopefully thats something that can be changed.

the difficulty in the game depend of how you play. if you kill every mob you meet you will be far too powerful and the game will be very easy.

But if you kill the mobs only when you are in an area where your level is above the level of the enemies, there will be some difficulty (and the game will be hard if you keep your characters 2 level above the mobs).

Don't forget the game is a dungeon RPG, there is only one town in the game, no teleportation system and the healing items are very expensive, so even if the difficulty is low, a trip can be dangerous if you fish with no healing item far from the town.

For the design of yYuma, I agree with you, it not it's very bad but, it's don't fit in the universe. Actually, even from someone like me who like the modern shining and consider them like true Shining games, even if Shining resonance is a decent game, it don't feel like a Shining to me (more like a mix between Tales of and Atelier series with some breath of Fire element)

Question regarding the this game.

1.) Is there only 1 town throughout the game?

2.) Is this sorta like Shining Soul or Shining In The Darkness in which there is only 1 town/1 area of civilization?

1.Yes, only one town in the game

2.there is few camp where it's possible to save, sleep, some craft quest and buy some healing item, but yes only one town where you take quest, talk to the PNJ or upgrade your equipment

I played this demo recently. It might've been more interesting if Sonia had been a centaur knight.

Mostly, the battle menus are a mess; worse, I felt like I was basically button-mashing at random to win battles and moving from cutscene to cutscene, rather than playing the game. Also, I was only able to control the lead chara--the demo never showed me how to switch between the charas during battle.

That's not how *any* turn-based JRPG should feel, whether it's tactical (Shining Force, Fire Emblem) or a regular JRPG. The player should be in control of the team.

Changing character is not seamless(like using an healing item)you need to open the pause menu and changinging the leader of the group.

But actually, some RPG don't let you changing your lead during the battle (old school tales of and Star Ocean, FFXV, Kingdom Hearts)

I'm *kind of* enjoying the full game, but sometimes the over-sensationalized waifu dating-sim crap really irks me, given it's under the banner of a Shining game.

The game is enjoyable for what it is. It's a light-hearted romp that I don't mind spending time on.

I agree with you on the waifu part. Not really a fan of dating sims at all.... especially how it has infiltrated even other great strategy rpg's. Its like I can't escape the fad. Hopefully it will pass.
Haven't played too far into it sadly. Been busy with life, But it is interesting enough to want me to play more. Also busy with other games I have neglected to finish first in line.

I am surprised that with the run up to the Japanese release, the PS4 re-release, all of the new trailers, and all of the information published on gaming websites, that I still found myself surprised when one particular party member joined.

I completed the first chapter, it's ok for now; too many buttons for keyboard :damnit:

The history is about Dragonia, Parmecia, but with different names
it's the same Shining Dragon from RotDD? :shifty:

Why do you think Dragonia is Parmecia? similar geography/map?

And I am don't remember there was a Shining Dragon in ROTDD

Any attempt to try to connect this game to any anything else in the series other than ability names is pointless. There's no parallels, no similarities, nothing.

actually, Shining Tears, Wind, Blade and Ark shared many similarity with the old Shining, so Shining Resonance could have some similarities too

I'm pretty sure at this point the creator is just using the Shining name as a means to get his own custom waifus made from the artist.

The translation confuses the player with the introduction of one of the World Dragons, the Dark Dragon, which is not the same Dark Dragon from the classics or Shining Blade

Fortunately, 98% of romantic conversations are sidequests

I wouldn't classify that as confusing the player with a translation. It's the same thing as calling spells Aura, Hellblast, Blaze, Spark, etc.

It's just a call back to make it seem like it's part of the "Shining" series.
