Should I invest in the Shining Soul installments?

I'm a die hard shining fan myself and was just wondering if you guys would recommend picking this and its sequel up.

Go for SS2 first. There's no issue of needing to play SS1 before SS2, and the latter of the two greatly improves on a number of the flaws that were in the first (i.e. music, gameplay, etc.). SS2 is generally (if not by pretty much everyone) regarded as the far more enjoyable of the two.

After that, if you generally enjoy the Action-RPG gameplay style, see how you feel about getting SS1.

Well, if you collect all the Shining games then they are a must have. but in terms of game play, definitely get SS2 first. It's vastly improved from SS1. There are some good things about SS1. But SS2 is definitely better. Plus as Cull says, there's no reason "story line wise" to play 1 before 2.

I have to agree with others here. SS2 is ALOT of fun in my opinion. You get to see alot of 'shining' things brought to a hack/slash game. Only get SS1 if you're a collector.

Patrel Rushlock eh? A warrow hero in the Dark Tide? Good stuff.

To the others, thanks for the advice, I'll probably pick them up.

I say if you are going to get both, get SS1 first, then SS2. That way your not even more disappointed with 1 and you're more impressed with 2.

I was told not to even bother with SS1, adds little to nothing in terms of series story, and has terrible gameplay. Also, the music is apparently horrid.

I may attempt SS2 at somepoint, though, that was also discouraged for any but Shining hardcore. :(

Indeed, though you're the first I think to catch the reference :)

Hope you're enjoying the game(s)

I say thee nay. I would heartily recommend SS2 even to one who has no familiarity with the Shining series. I'm already playing it over again, and loving it.
