Shining Soul's Plot

Postby Fofa » Wed Oct 20 2004 2:59am

Can anyone please explain to me the plot of Shining Soul? I've never played it, though I've heard it's a jumbled mess. (Probably a good thing I never played it though.)

Actually it can still fit in the puzzle, but it does take alot of stretches.

This is the battle before Shining Force 1, so its basically the first game on the chronology timeline. Otrant, Chaos, and Adam are all here. Also, I have a feeling that the swordsman is Max, yes the one from SF1, the reason is that he is frozen before SF1 thereby preserving his life because he was a powerful warrior along with Kain, and their intent was to awaken to stop Dark Dragon the next time.

Anyways one of the most controversial things is Bulzome, he is a general of Dark Dragon's army. He is sorta low in rank too, but he does express that he will become more powerful later. I actually don't find that too clashing with the storyline.

Another thing is the relationship between DarkSol and Dark Dragon. I myself think that its called Dark Dragons army because hes a powerful force, but DarkSol is the brains and he is the summoner of Dark Dragon.

So if this was before SF 1, then wouldn't the Dark Dragon be out for the old heroes blood, since he/she defeated it?

And I remember reading something in the Shining Studies about Shining Soul saying that all of the games took place at once. Maybe I read it wrong. . .

Dark Dragon and his 5 generals. Your in Prontis which probably is supposed to be Prompt. And Noah(centaur), is sorta the leader of the resistance against Dark Dragon. An Adam robot and Chaos are with him along with Otranto aka Otrant (Damn he's old must have found a way to live forever or is just immortal...). Anyways you basically singlehandedly whoop all these generals and then go for the gold at the end. Lots of familiar boss faces.

Oh, boring.

But I'm curios as to why the story is a jumbled mess. I know Bulzome is in there, but. .

Two words: new team.
It was awesome to finally see another Shining game, poor excuse though it was. It had a legendary name to live up to, and didn't do it any justice. The new team (I think) saw how successful the engine was, with examples like Diablo. So they took the engine, slapped the Shining name onto it with a few characters, and threw it onto the market. The result was the jumbled mess it called a plot; it did have great gameplay, though, thanks to the engine and multiplayer modes.
Once again:
Great concept, bad execution. :eww:

Fofa, I think most shining fans are sorta wierded out by how many huge bosses you fight are in the game. To me it doesnt complicate things near as much as trying to conect SF1-SF2-SFFinal Conflict. The 5 generals are:
WARNING: SPOILER!

If the number of popular bosses were reduced and the game was better, then people would be more willing to accept the storyline as part of the series.

That greatly complicates matters.

I think that Zeon and Dark Dragon is really stretching it. I mean, expecially if Zeon had lost his powers and didn't start to regain them until SF2.

It just doesn't make sense, not with the history told at the Storytellers in Tristan.

Also, it doesn't make sense that you defeat the collosus where you did. As that would place prompt right in Aspia.

I hadn't thought of that Rune. That sure does mess things up, however its possible that the machine was roaming around inbetween SS1 and SF3. Justin makes it sound like Bulzome left it under Aspia as a trap for later.

Justin:
The Bulzome wanted revenge on Aspia, so they left a terrible monster there, the Colossus.

Did any of the villans have the ability to see into the future? 'Cause that's the only way I would see that Collosus would be around between SS and SF3.

shining soul is only good if you got alot of time and energy to button mash, the plot is very small and you don't really have to listen to it by the way is shining soul 2 any better

Just a warning if you do. It's not the best game in the world. But anyone can tell you that it's horribly addictive. It's the worst game I couldn't manage to put down.
