Quick question about the second to last battle on Sc. 1

Postby Mupen64 Man » Mon Aug 14 2017 2:48pm

Hey there fellas, its been a while. Anyway, I wanted to ask if there is anyway to transfer more characters then the ones you have in reserve to the other side to assist in taking the dam quicker? As it is, I only have Eldar, Justin, and Fynnding on the otherside, and it seems too late to get the rest of the characters I somehow missed.

Not only is it tough taking the other side, but Eldar and Justin are my least used characters (sacrilege, I know!) so they are very weak. I hired the mercenaries from the tavern in town and they were incredibly useful helping taking the dam, but not in time to save half my force from being annihilated by the titan at the bridge. Since this was only my first attempt at taking the bridge, I am sure I can succeed with much better results next time I play, but it would be an incredible help to find out how to move people I don't need from the main force to the reserves.

I went to the caravan and swapped on Eldar and Justin with better characters, but still, 3 weak characters + 4 mercs just aren't cutting it for me right now. Its funny, I had a way easier time taking out the Skull Mage than this bridge! :shifty:

Im not really down for cheating so close to beating it haha, plus I am playing on real hardware and right now I don't have a way to edit my saves via pc, only action replay.

You don't really need to engage the Titan while the other team takes care of business. Just let them come to you. Put your healer with the other group along with a couple studs.

Or, just stay under the bridge, and have the B team kill all but 1 enemy. Then have the A team move into formation. You have 2 birdmen on the B team so it is easy to scatter the enemy troops so that you do not prematurely end the battle.

If I remember correctly, I think it's possible to get one additional member on the dam team. If you put Fynnding in your main force, he will automatically transfer to the secondary team.

Another common trick is to give Fynnding a mithril weapon with an instant kill special. You then have him rush toward the boss, save, and hope for an instant win. You then restart until it works. Unlike the other bosses out there, the gigabreaker is vulnerable to instant death. This means you can end the dam battle very quickly.

Wow, that sounds like a great plan Rune! And thank you other fellas for the help. I might have enough energy to beat the game tonight after I get a few things done around the house.

When you do not have the Zero Wings, it is actually better to use the last buyable non-mithril rapier (Epee?) to try the Instant death method, because the mithril Rapiers all have non-instant-kill specials (which have a higher chance to be triggered). And of yourse some loincloth's also help :)

Hey there fellas, after a couple of years playing this game on and off, I finally beat the game! Thanks for all your replies, they were a help even if I didn't take all advice into account lol. Along with the mercs, Cybel, and Obright, and Fynnding, taking the dam was easy. The Prince however was harder than I thought, but defeated him easily enough too. Here is proof of my feat, lol. I'm a noob compared to most of you, but I'm pretty proud of it. Now on to Scenario 2!

Only 64 hours played?

Pfft.

Not nearly long enough :p

(In case you don't know, Mupen64 Man, I'm one of the several people on here renowned for clocking up above 150 hours per game per scenario to uber-level :D )

@Swalchy, only pansies power level. You need to beat the game at the lowest level possible to show your true skills in this game.

I usually need about 120 h for scenario 1 & 2 and about 150 h for scenario. But I neither don't power level nor do I soulmate everybody (in fact I never managed to get even 1 soulmated pair in scenario 1). I just take my time and look around, explore, talk to everybody and every time they say something new and so on! Those things are part of a good playthrough for me. :p

I like to talk to all the npcs I can in RPGs, for some reason Scenario 1 didn't take too long to get through most of the npc dialogue

What can I say. I prefer slaughter

Aye. Level 20 then promote, soulmate all characters, and level 3 with all the weapon classes that each character is allowed to use.

The gigabreaker, not the colossus.

To clarify, the boss fighting in the reserve battle can be instant killed in both versions. The colossus, the boss of the main battle, can only be killed in the japanese version.
