Re: bored members discuss inflation
I'm one of the people that liked the wii controls, although I know it is a standard complaint.
In particular, I thought it was the first 3d zelda with good (but not great) controls for aiming and I had no trouble with the shield bash. I think trouble with the shield bash is a very common issue. Some people have trouble with the exact sword slash they want (horizontal/vertical), but I found that to be largely irrelevant.

I have the Wii version myself, and a nifty t-shirt that is getting a little old and faded...

Re: Zelda
Link's awakening, i think will always be my favorite. The brisk pacing, relatively compact map with very little filler. I go through it once every few years - just long enough to forget where everything precisely is. I take my time; 15-16 hours or so over the course of a few weeks.
Kinda wish it were a tad more difficult but it's a breezy and satisfying experience.
2nd in line is Zelda II for totally different reasons.

Link's awakening was my first Zelda game. You know about the bomb arrow trick or stealing from the shop?

Ocarina of Time is my favorite, and is one of my all time favorite games ever of any genre. Loved me some Link to the Past though.

Re: bored members discuss inflation
One thing I don't understand when debating anything Zelda related is people debating about it being an RPG (Role-Playing Game NOT a Rocket-Propelled Grenade)
I personally see it as an Adventure-Puzzle series tbh.

I can seem some ambiguity, but to me personally I think that an RPG requires you to level up.
A third person hack n' slash where you accumulate items to do different things to me is more of an action game, otherwise franchises like God of War are ultimately also included by that definition as being RPG. (Love God of War BTW)

I'm with Phill on this one. It'd be action-RPG at best in my mind, but the criteria people use to determine if something is an RPG or not nowadays means that CoD could technically be considered one.
In other news, just got back from urgent care with a pinched nerve. Hopefully the valium and tramadol means I'll be able to sleep tonight.

Re: bored members discuss inflation
God damn. That does not sound fun at all.
I've got about two weeks left before my move back to Albuquerque, and aside from the obvious being happy about being reunited with my wife and kids indefinitely after 6 months of living alone just making money, I am also looking forward to jamming music, starting a new game of Shining in the Darkness, and checking out Endless Sky.
The latter is apparently basically a clone of Escape Velocity with some expansions. More aliens/races/governments kind of thing. I've been a fan of Escape Velocity for... Holy Shit.. 20 years... !!!!!
In any case, Ambrosia Software doesn't seem to do anything anymore, or at least nothing that could give me another installment of Escape Velocity. Nova was in conjunction with another company, and I didn't quite like as much, but was still cool.
If it turns out to not be as cool, I'll just start up a game of OG EV. Because that shit never gets old.

Re: bored members discuss inflation
I'm fine with people counting Zelda as an RPG, I do. In particular, blah, blah, blah, Zelda 2 had a level system, blah, blah, blah, there is an inherent difference in style from CoD.
But also I think it's not worth discussing. We used to argue about secret of mana and secret of evermore being RPGs. According the the box art, they are not RPGs, they are action/adventure:
But really, who the hell cares? Call them whatever you want.
Unrelated, but I just saw a picture of this and had to suppress my gag reflex:
That is just f*cking disgusting.

A cucumber is one thing, a box of fireball is another.
But seriously, every time I look at that box, I have to take a couple minutes of slow breaths so I don't puke.

Re: bored members discuss inflation
If I must address my opinion on why I don't think Zelda qualifies as an RPG is that it is designed to make your character Link be 'progressively' strong by gathering powerups and items in the game similar to Metroid, but not 'repetitively' strong as in most RPGs.
I can kill the same enemy over and over in every Zelda game (except Zelda 2) and will never get strong in the most repetitive fashion. When I think of RPGs I think of games that play like traditional DnD, or DnD inspired e.g. JRPGs for the most part. Oh I forgot to mention this, most games that are classified as RPGs generally are math-intensive for those who hate Math.
Zelda is too unique to be classified as an RPG alongside Metroid. I just personally think Adventure would be a better description since these games are mostly about getting invested into the adventure we're going to have with these characters, but even I understand classifying both these series in that category is still too vague.
Enemies in most Zelda games are a nuisance just to get in your way. I don't need to kill them when I can just avoid most of them and be as pacifistic as possible. That might be an interesting run, Play like a Pacifist except for the bosses + No Death, I might try that someday while playing Minish Cap.
This was not the case when it comes to RPGs back in the early 80s to late 90s where most of them at least were DnD inspired. I guess times have changed where the term RPG has become a vague terminology just as much as calling any game an Adventure or a Puzzle game.
