Made a fresh IPS file. Hopefully no more problems with broken patchings.
Implemented some stat changes, as detailed in the Milestone Edition Main thread.
Also the case with the Milestone Edition, Battle sprite palettes of the added character data go strange colours when certain spells are cast. I am still looking into this, but think I know the cause of the issue. A fix for both this and the Milestone should hopefully be on the way soon.
Promoting Lemon to Baron will make his Map Sprite appear like Claude. This will be fixed when I get to it.
In battle 5, if Slade is in your force, and is killed, the game will lock up after the battle. I have no way to fix this at present. If Slade dies, reset and try again.
Shining Force 2: Milestone Edition-12 Man Marathon is a slight reimagining of the Milestone Edition. Building upon it's foundation, I have created this for one purpose: to allow the players to
choose their desired Shining Force 2 dream team, and play them from level 1, from the very first battle.
For Milestone changes, you should refer to the Milestone Readme. All of those changes have remained intact, with the exception of the following:
Minimum EXP has been reset back to 1
Monster levels have been restored to defaults
Boss AGI scores have been restored to return their two turns per round
Additional changes made to this hack include:
Taros and Kraken Head HP's have been vastly increased
The Vampire Bat has had it's poison and Blaze 2 replaced with MP Drain and Dispel.
All battles allow for 12 force members
Battles prior to Taros (with teh exception of Kraken) have had additional monsters added to maintain the exp curves due to the extra members
Battles post-Taros (with the exception of Chess) have had additional monsters added because I'm evil.
Many enemy AI's and trigger regions have been moved around to make better use of spawning monsters, and in an effort to implement smarter monster strategies.
Heal and Aura level 2 now have a base heal of 20. This makes them much more desirable as far as casting goes.
How to Play
First and Foremost, remember to BACK UP YOUR ORIGINAL SF2 ROM before continuing with the following steps.
To start off, you need an emulator. I personally recommend Gens Plus. When you have an emulator set up, you need to apply the ips patch in this zip to the rom entitled Shining Force II (U)!.bin, and this needs to be an unchanged rom (not caravan-expanded for example). To do this, google a program called IPSWin. It can quickly apply IPS patches for you.
Once you've applied the patch, and gotten your 12 Man Marathon rom, place it wherever you keep your roms.
Once your files are in place, load the rom into your emulator, and go through the startup screens as normal. Once the witch waves you off, instead of Bowie in his room, you are instead greeted to a series of Menus. Prior to every battle, you will be given the chance to do all of the things you would in a town, one after the other, as the menus are called automatically. Below is the menu call order:
Weapon Shop (If one would be available at the time)
Item Shop (If one would be available at the time)
Standard Menu (You know, the one you press C to bring up)
Quitting one menu will call the next in the sequence. Once you quit the last menu, you will recieve a message asking "Are you Ready?". Choosing YES will start the battle. Choosing NO will start the menu sequence from the beginning: useful if you accidentally frameskipped past one of the menus you wanted.
When you start, make ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that you use the caravan to JOIN a member. If you don't your default empty party will crash the game.
Once you choose yes, you should be back in familiar territory as the battle starts. If you die, or egress, or use an angel wing, you will recall the menus prior to the current battle, and the battle will repeat (Unless you do so on battle 4; this battle is set to automatically move on even in the original if you die. Probably due to the lack of priest in Hawel's house to raise fallen allies.) Victory obviously calls the menus to prepare for the next battle, and so on and so forth until you complete the game.
That should cover everything. If anything pops up that I haven't mentioned here, drop me a line in a PM or email me, and I'll update the readme.
Once again, I must extend my thanks to (in no particular order):
