How does SFCD Domingo compare to his SF1 self?
Does he still retain his insane high defense? I just started playing this for the first time and just wondering what to expect from him here.

Nope, his defense is okay but nothing like what it was in SF1. Instead, he gets a wider variety of spells. He still floats as usual.

From what I've read, they've (rightly!) nerfed Dom in SFCD. No "I WIN" buttons for Nick and Deanna.

That being said, he's still pretty good!

Amigo gets aura 4 sooner than anyone for what its worth, and ends up pretty nice statistically if ya take some time with her, unforunately she joins pretty late. I should have full stats soon for 20/20 for all who wanna know in my topic. About halfway through the force currently.

Domingo is the only mage to learn every attack spell, which gives him great utility, and Amigo is almost Karna with her aura and boost

Domingo has the best spell selection, Freeze 4, Bolt 3 ftw. Shame is he doesn't really have enough MP to use Bolt... but then... who does?

His Defense is among the worst on the force in this one, but his spell selection is amazing. Blaze lv. 3, Freeze lv. 4 (he is the ONLY character in the entire game that learns this), Bolt lv. 3, Desoul lv. 2 (and it works a fair amount of the time). No good reason not to take him, really, even with his shoddy Defense. He does float, too.

Agreed with previous post. He can hover and a cast 3 powerful spells, making him a good character to cast from different angles. Regarding his defense, you can:

always remember to drop the protect rings from the first battle, and purchase them as deals, and give him a protect ring

Well if you think about it, you actually played the game the way it was probably supposed to be played.
The game was pretty easy anyway.

Re: How does SFCD Domingo compare to his SF1 self?
As above. I'm actually dumbfounded about this. Need to try it on my next playthrough (might make early levels for Amigo easier)
Been a while since I've played SFCD, so a few questions
And, to keep the topic relevant, Domingo is really useful in SFCD Book 1, but I find he really shines if you carry him through to Book 3. A floating mage really helps in the second battle.
EDIT: spoilered section in keeping with previous posts

Spoiler
about the protect ring. Does is cast anything, like Boost? also, how much does one buy them for from deals if one were to drop them in the first battle?

Spoiler
The Protect Ring casts Boost L1 when used and you can rebuy it for 10.000 gold coins.
