Translations in progress

Post by Moogie »

Just so anyone working on the translation can keep track of what's currently being done...

- Omega Entity is working on the seperate set of files which cover menus, items, names etc. These are not in the Google docs so no worries about anyone doubling up there.

COMPLETED
The files in "In-Battle Text" have now been finished, aside from one line for which I need to check the context. These translations are in the 'Translations' folder within "In-Battle Text".
I have not touched the "Longer" files within "In-Battle Text". I may have a look at these later.

Thanks :) I'll make sure Chris knows not to touch that one - and OE should be checking in here from time to time (plus she's working on a totally seperate set of files - menus, names etc).

Just a quick update so that folks don't think the project is forgotten :)
StorMyu is still working on the technical aspects of the project and I'm still hoping to find a way to easily record all the game's cutscenes without having to play through the whole thing again (don't seem to have enough freetime at the moment). Pleonex will hopefully be assisting me with sorting this out.

So, things may seem quiet but it doesn't mean progress isn't being made :)

Translations probably won't be posted publically until the patch is ready, I'd have to check with the project leader about giving anything out ahead of time.

In other news, I now have the means to easily video capture most of the cutscenes to aid translation :D I was expecting to have to work this weekend, but that seems to be delayed so I guess instead I'll have to pass the time by making the videos - what a shame ;)

Patience. You'll get the info when we're ready (and have permission) to release it. Not before then.

Is everyone still working on the same sections as last stated, or is there anything we can cross off? We have a new translator on board (I'm sure he'll introduce himself soon) and I'd like to be sure we're not doubling up on anything!

We haven't had a chance to get into our section much yet. Something popped up and has occupied our time recently. I imagine in the next couple of weeks we will have some time to dedicate to this.

Will keep you updated.

No problem, I totally understand and have been really busy myself the last few weeks with work. I just wanted to check in, it's great if you guys might have a bit of time to work on this, but real life has to come first :)

Same section here. Aanderse, don't feel bad if things pop up that you have to deal with. This is a side project, after all, and we're not on a timetable - there's certainly no rush, and from what I've seen of these types of projects, it's almost always a matter of these things going in fits and starts.

Hi guys,

I'm glad to be a part of this as a translator.
I haven't decided on which part I'm going to start on yet, but I'll let you know once I start churning things out.

By the way, which programs do you guys use to do the translation work? Currently the files open in the standard XML editor for me, is there anything more convenient to use than that?

Re: Translations in progress

Thanks. :)

I've been working on Help & Tutorials section, and just working my way up from the bottom.
Here are some examples of my first translations. The tags/code don't show up here, but they are still there in the .xml file.
I'm posting them because I want some input about them.
   <Attack attributes>

Similarly to how characters have an inherent attribute, attacks also possess an attribute.
If you attack an enemy possessing the opposing attribute, the damage you deal will be increased by a factor of 1.5.
However, attacking a target with the same attribute will reduce the damage to half.
When neither of the above applies, the damage output will progress normally.
These rules also apply to attacks made by allied characters.

The treasure chest was successfully opened!
The treasure chest was stolen!
The treasure chest was stolen!
This one was the first one I did, it seems pretty straightforward and I think it's accurate and understandable. I'm just wondering what's up with the three lines at the bottom, they seem to be in every one of these help text files so far.

The original text was:
宝箱を開放に成功した!
宝箱を奪われてしまった!
宝箱を奪われてしまった!
I haven't played the game, but I'm guessing it's some sort of win/loss message?

Another one:
    <Connect>

Using “Connect”, your allies whose turns occur in succession are able to attack a single target together.
At most, you can perform a consecutive attack using five allies.

Start off by moving the first character into attack range.

Continue by selecting “Special” from the command menu.

From the Special menu, select “Connect”.

Afterwards, the characters participating in the attack are confirmed in the green circle.

Lastly, select your target for the attack. You will be moved to a battle scene and the Connect will commence.

You can control your characters on the battle scene like during a normal attack.

Ready standby characters are displayed on the left of the Force Gauge.

When your currently controlled character’s attack Force is exhausted, by inputting an attack again
the next character in turn will substitute him and continue the attack.

Furthermore, even if the current character has Force remaining, you can choose another character by pressing the R button.

Another feature of Connect is that under certain circumstances, you are able to launch a special attack.
This attack is called “Blow Away”, after performing a certain amount of attacks,
the upper part of the Force Gauge will display “Finish”, and it will become usable through the directional buttons.

This attack has a special animation, and the amount of Mithril you can receive will be greatly increased from normal.

When a Blow Away occurs, that battle scene’s attack will be ended.

The treasure chest was successfully opened!
The treasure chest was stolen!
The treasure chest was stolen!
This one is a bit more complicated as it explains a combat mechanic that I haven't used myself (kinda like the blind leading the blind), but I think it's mostly accurate. If you've played the game, can you tell me if this is how the mechanic works in the game?

Also, the expression "戦闘カット" keeps coming back in these documents, I translated that as "battle scene", since I thought the "cut" part refers to "cutscene". Comments?

And when the script refers to "十字ボタン", am I correct that this refers to the directional buttons, and not an X button on the DS? I don't own one. :damnit:

There are some other terms like "attack Force" that could need a readjustment, but I guess we'll have time for that once we're in the QC phase.
I feel it's important that we will use a universal set of terms, since it looks sloppy and confusing if we have multiple translators and each one uses slightly different terms in the same game.
So how about we make up a terminology list of words that frequently occur, so we can discuss on how to best translate these words and adopt them universally.

I use my first connect battle right here, you can go and see for yourself if you want to. Mind you, it's my first one, like I say, I miss a few things, like the finish thing, I didn't know it existed.

And yeah, the characters involved are simply those that have their turns consecutive and that are in range of one another. It happens a little earlier in the video.

EDIT

If you need something in particular put in context, you could always ask me. If I have it on tape, I might have an easier time remembering where that happened, rather than you finding it.

Awesome work Weyu - looks like it's all accurate from what I can remember of the gameplay/attack mechanisms. I'm not sure why the treasure chest bits appear so frequently in some areas of the script, I'm going to guess that the scripts you chose are from tutorial battles and therefore have some battle-end messages stored in the same file.

Thanks guys.
I'll check some of those videos and the Let's Play when I have some more time, so I get a better idea of how the game works.
