Torch Eye...FAIL

Post by Wulf »

The remake ruined the Torch Eye's former glory...minus 1? Is that a joke? I thought it was a fixed amount...

Do you mean the attack damage?
In the remake, a Torch eye's long range attack deals 19-21 damage, the close range deals equal to their actual attack stat vs. player defense.
I forget how much they used to deal, was it always 20 damage regardless of defense?

I believe the original game also had a physical attack, it was just rarely used...

Either way, the physical attack in the original was NOT a fixed amount of damage. So, if you had, say, a high-level Khris, then yes, in the original, the physical attack would still only do 1 point of damage.

I don't recall the original torch eyes ever hitting with a normal attack. The claws, yes, as their beam attack seemed to be just an optional ranged attack, though it was often much better because of the fixed damage. I've played the original many times, but obviously not often enough if I've never encountered a physical hit.

In this game I've encountered a physical hit, though it was still very rare, it did happen a few times. I admittedly I only have 2 stars in this game, though, so I haven't played through nearly as many times.

Hm... I could be mixing the two, then... the brain is very tired right now. I do know that the Torch Eye's laser still does fixed damage in the remake, however.

I'm not saying you're wrong, just that I've never experienced it. That said, I avoid the torch eyes like the plague unless I'm fairly sure I can get in the first hits for a kill, as I'm sure most people do, but most of the time they don't have the opportunity to move in for a melee hit.

I've never seem the original Torch eye's use a close range attack either, but It's possible I just never had it happen.
I do remember them having fixed damage, which sucked for the higher leveled guys, but was great for the healers and mages. 20 is way better than instantly dead, but 20 damage is worse than 1 damage.

A buddy told me it does happen, like Dani said....just rarely. I haven't seen it myself, but they tend to die too fast to get the chance.

Are you sure you aren't confused with Steel Claws in LoGI?

They do both a weak physical attack and a beam attack

To this day I have never seen the Torch Eyes use a physical attack. They always laser for 20 or so damage in LOGI. I haven't seen a physical hit in this either, but admittedly, I haven't given it the same amount of attention as the original.

If the Torch Eye can actually do a physical attack... what is the point if they didn't fix the attack values? They rebalanced a lot of other stuff, why not that as well?

Oy oy oy...

The only thing that bugs me about the ones in LoGI is that when they do the special attack...they can still double attack. That's just rude, IMO.

Yeah, even magic could do double damage back in the day...

Torch Eyes only had the special laser attack in SF1. They always passed through defense, which made them very dangerous. Did roughly 17-20 damage. Steel Claws, however, did have physical attacks which they sometimes would use. Jets ONLY had physical attacks.

Beat me to it :damnit: though I'll be honest I initially thought we were talking about "Laser Eye" instead of "Torch Eye" to which I was thinking "when did laser eye ever have a physical attack"...but I digress. Torch Eyes did ignore defense yes, I never encountered a physical attack against them, if I have I just don't remember that far back. Steel Claws seemed to always use their physical attack against me than their laser, which was always a positive in my eyes. Though the robot's low hp and relatively low (for late-level) defenses made them easy kills. I guess I never took the chance of standing their waiting for a physical attack as I do not want to be the victim of losing a guy due to a double-hit.
