I'm one of those lurker-turned-poster types, coming to you with one of the weirdest problems I've ever encountered.
So it's been more than a decade since I last played through all scenarios of SF3, and that was back on my actual Saturn console. Recently, I've been inspired to revisit the game, mainly to show some of my friends how great that gem really is. The plan: Play the English version, record it and put it on Youtube for my friends to watch. Since I want to play the English version (of Sc2+3 as well) and I lack the capabilities of recording console footage, I decided to make use of the SSF-emulator and record it using ShadowPlay. (Disclaimer: I own original copies of all three scenarios and a Saturn console, can post photo proof if necessary. Using the emulator simply for ease of recording.)
Now patching worked fine - even though I had the same problem on Windows 10 as some others in this forum, but that's another topic. Used my older laptop and it worked as intended. The game plays smoothly, recording works, everything's great. BUT...
While playing, I noticed an incredibly irritating problem with the background music
. For some reason, the higher pitched parts of certain songs - or the "flute" parts, I actually don't know the deciding factor here - are ever so slightly distorted. Here, I'll post some examples:Example 1 - Saraband / town theme
- listen to that "flute" part in the background.

- less severe here, but still there.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who hears that...
To my ears, the high, flute-like background melody is slightly lower in my videos than it should be, which distorts the whole harmony. And really, even if this sounds like a nitpick, distorted background music can really ruin the experience, especially since I love the SF3 soundtrack to death.
What baffles me even more is that seemingly not all songs are affected. Here's the intro in Gabriel's hut as a control example:

Before you ask, this is not a problem of the recording software. I noticed the distortion while playing, and I even tested it afterwards without ShadowPlay in the background. Still the same.
Using the original game CD with my Saturn console, the music is completely fine, as expected. No problems there.
But now I'm kind of stuck. The problem lies either with:
- the emulator (I checked the audio options, no change)
- my PC (only 3 months old and more than capable of handling SSF)
- the patched ISO/CUE (most likely, I think?)
- the patch itself (?)
I haven't had the time yet to patch another ISO/CUE. Intuitively, I think this might be a possible solution to the problem - some weird hiccup in the patching process that, for whatever reason, only corrupted very specific parts of very specific songs in the background. However, I won't be able to check that until the weekend, earliest.
Still, I wanted to present the problem here in case somebody had a similar experience. I'm really just terribly confused at how such a particular glitch can come about.
Does anyone have any insights?
